Delinquent Tax Collection
The primary purpose of Delinquent Property Tax Collection is to effectively collect back property taxes. These taxes include any amounts that are at least one year past due and are owed to various county or state organizations. The division plays a crucial role in ensuring that these overdue taxes are collected in a timely manner, thereby supporting local government funding and services.
Process
Once property tax bills are delinquent and transferred from the Sheriff to the County Clerk, they are designated as certificates of delinquency and forwarded to our office for collection.
Letters are sent to taxpayers who are delinquent, informing them that their bills are subject to collection. These communications detail the potential consequences of non-payment, which may ultimately lead to foreclosure.
Once the Clerk advertises and sells these bills, third-party investors can buy them. After the purchase, various additional fees may be applied to the bills.
